Brent Williams

My story

Brent Williams is a trumpet artist and educator active in the central California music scene for over 20 years. His sound has been described as “beautifully shimmery, warm and inviting” and “perfectly clean and articulated”. Brent has performed in seven countries including France, Japan, Germany, Peru, Canada, Malta, and the United States. 

 

Williams earned his B.A. in Music from California State University of Bakersfield and his M.M. in Music Education from Boston University. He also holds a Mindful-based Wellness and Pedagogy Certification from the Institute for Mindfulness-based Wellness in Bloomington, Indiana and Kodaly Level 1 Certification from the California State University of Bakersfield Kodaly Institute. 

 

Williams has toured across the United States with famed Christian singing and instrumental group The Celebrant Singers and actively freelances throughout California and the greater Bakersfield area. He regularly collaborates with groups throughout Bakersfield in both recordings and live concerts. Williams has performed with The Bakersfield Winds, the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra, Shafter Symphony, Tehachapi Symphony, and the Bakersfield Music Theatre, He is an active member of a number of notable Bakersfield-based groups including Mento Buru, Foster Campbell and Friends, and Soulajar. 

 

Williams recognizes his influential teachers including Donald Williams, Charles Brady, Kris Tiner, Sal Panelli, Steve Eisen, and Edward Carrol. He participated in notable music festivals including The Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale at Enfield, New Hampshire, the Orford Arts Centre in Montreal, Quebec and Musikallpa Festival  Internacional de Instrumentos de Metal del Peru in Lima, Peru.

 

Williams is an advocate for music education in his local community. He is actively involved in the Kern County Music Educators Association (KCMEA) where he served on the board for four years and the Bakersfield Youth Symphony Orchestra where he served as manager for seven years and currently serves on the board of directors. He also regularly adjudicates individuals and chamber ensembles in organizations such as the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA), California Band Directors Association (CBDA), California Music Educators Association (CMEA), and the Kern County Music Educators Association (KCMEA). Williams is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, National Association for Music Education and the California Band Directors Association. 

 

Williams currently serves as the adjunct trumpet professor at California State University of Bakersfield, Director of Fine Arts and Music at St. John’s Lutheran Church, and Instrumental Music Teacher (5-8) at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He has extensive experience conducting and leading choirs, chamber music ensembles, and wind bands. 

 

Williams maintains an active private music studio where his students consistently earn top chairs in both local and state honor groups and recognition nationally.
